Carbon fiber plates fundamentally address three core structural problems: insufficient load-bearing capacity, lack of stability, and decreased durability, covering a variety of common structural hazards.

Issues Related to Insufficient Load-Bearing Capacity: 

  • Beams, slabs, columns, and other structural components in buildings and bridges may experience insufficient load-bearing capacity due to increased loads (such as building additions or heavy vehicle traffic on bridges).

  • Aging of old structural materials (such as decreased concrete strength) or failure to meet current design standards after upgrades.

  • Damage to component cross-sections (such as concrete spalling or steel reinforcement corrosion and thinning) leads to a decrease in load-bearing capacity.


Structural Deformation and Crack Issues

  • For concrete structures exhibiting bending and shear deformation, carbon fiber reinforced plates are used to limit deformation development.

  • For structural cracks ≤0.5mm wide on the surface of components (such as tensile cracks at the bottom of beams and vertical cracks in columns), carbon fiber reinforced plates can transfer stress and inhibit crack propagation.

  • For localized deformation caused by uneven settlement of the structure, carbon fiber reinforced plates can improve overall stiffness and alleviate deformation problems.


Durability and Protection Related Issues

  • For structures exposed to humid, salt spray, or chemically corrosive environments, carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) plates offer strong corrosion resistance, can replace corroded steel reinforcement to bear tensile forces, and extend the structural lifespan.

  • After a fire, when the strength of concrete structures is damaged, CFRP plates can quickly reinforce the mechanical properties of damaged components.

  • For partial damage to components (such as concrete defects caused by impact), combining CFRP plate reinforcement with repair materials can restore structural integrity.


Additional notes: 

Carbon fiber plate reinforcement is more suitable for structural members that are mainly subjected to tension, bending, and shear. For fundamental problems such as excessive foundation settlement and overall structural instability, a comprehensive reinforcement plan must be combined, and carbon fiber plates alone cannot be used to solve the problem.
